Angelique Kerber won the sets at the Wimbledon 2018 women finals.
Serena Williams had to fight hard but she couldn’t pass Angelique.
Playing against someone who has won the Wimbledon title seven times is not easy to do. But Angelique Kerber had to do it, she had to face Serena Williams who is back from maternity after a pregnancy break.
And she did it. Angelique Kerber beat Serena Williams. She won her first Wimbledon title for Germany. She did spoil the American tennis player dream.
But Serena Williams has gained a lot of strength and motivation and she is definitely ready to chase other Grand Slam titles.
It’s been a while since a German woman victory. Steffens Graf was the last woman to won Wimbledon for Germany in 1996. So it’s like a revenge, a dream coming true.
And Angelique Kerber brought the title back home. She said it was a dream coming true, she added:
I know I had to play my best tennis against a champion like Serena. Serena is a great person and a great champion and she is a great inspiration for all of us.
Serena Williams is proud of her comeback, she got to the Wimbledon final, she is happy:
It is obviously a disappointment but I can’t be disappointed. I’m literally getting started.
To the other mums out there I was playing for you today and I tried. But Angelique played really well. I look forward to continuing to be out there and do what I do best.
